Today Missouri Jobs with Justice joined Missouri Health Care for All, Women’s Voices Raised for Social Justice, Metropolitan Congregations United, Missouri Faith Voices, Missouri Medicaid Coalition and other organizations and lobbied for Medicaid expansion in Jefferson City.
The Lobby Day focused on the 700 Missourians will die every year we do not expand Medicaid. Missouri is already losing the opportunity to give affordable health care to 260,000 Missourians who currently do not have it. Missouri is also missing the opportunity to create to keep 24,000 jobs.
Missouri JwJ and our allies are putting pressure on the handful of Missouri state Senators have who promised to do everything in their power to block Medicaid expansion. This isn’t a partisan issue, it’s a life or death issue. Conservative estimates say that 700 Missourians will die each year if we do not fully expand Medicaid. No one’s values, Republican or Democrat, say people should die because they cannot access health care. But that will be the result if these 6 Senators get their way – 260,000 Missourians will remain uninsured and 700 of those uninsured will die because of preventable health problems.
